About this course

About this category

Play and being playful are considered cornerstones of creativity and idea generation. There is significant evidence that many ideas for new products and services were developed through playing around with ideas, materials and products. Play itself gives us a fresh perspective which is often critical in solving problems and being innovative. Play also helps us better understand the world around us because we can explore things in a fun way – we can make and build, create new worlds and personas, play new games and break the rules without fear of consequences. Play helps entrepreneurs innovate because it’s risk-free—there’s no judgment or failure when you’re playing.

Using play and being playful as a tool for developing creativity can imp to generate ideas and solve problems. Often, to be able to come up with lots of ideas people need to be given permission to play around and be free from judgment! For useful background to help you explore the concepts of play and creativity within entrepreneurship, watch “Janet Echelman: Taking imagination seriously

Wacky Invention

A wacky invention is best described through an example. It can also be something that can solve a problem that people had not thought about as being an essentially missing product but then becomes irreplaceable and a basic office supply such as 3M’s post-it notes. Who would have thought of sticking pieces of a square with a weak and thin strip of adhesive would turn into a multi-million dollar office supply on which some of the most innovative new ideas have been brainstormed? It has become an essential useful reminder, planning, strategizing, and management tool.

Creative Free Play

Entrepreneurs use their imagination to spark bold ideas. That’s why creativity that comes through free play is an essential entrepreneurial skill and can lead to wacky invention.

Making Something out of Nothing

Innovative Invention erupts when entrepreneurs fanute something useful from unmet market demands. Assessing market needs and wants establishes when there are gaps to be filled by newly innovated products and services. Entrepreneurs benefit from sourcing ways, even in extreme scarcity, to stay inspired, inventive, collaborate constructively and positively.
